Our Team has just completed out East African Service visits to Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda. We donated schools supplies and sporting equipment to some 1300 students in 4 schools, JRDC School in Shashamane, Ethiopia, Senator Obama Secondary School in Kogelo, Kenya, Mutumbu Girls School in Mutumbu, Kenya and Ngora Okoboi Primary School in Kumi, Uganda.
We conducted some sports and careers workshops with the kids and with the help of local volunteers we carried out a school improvement project at the JRDC in Shashamane, Ethiopia where we painted some 12 classrooms and the exterior of the buildings over three days. We also did some cleanup of the school grounds and some landscaping for the start of the school year.
Our team was well received by all our schools and we thank everyone for their hospitality. We would especially like to thank the coordinators on the ground, our country service chiefs, Mengesha Afework – Ethiopia, Benson Ndukwe – Kenya (who also travelled with our team to Uganda) and Rev. Robert Ecogu (Uganda), what GREAT hosts!
The needs of Ngora Okoboi Primary School require our URGENT attention. Some 503 students go to school every day in this mixed day school with the hope that through their education they can improve their life circumstances. The school building however has fallen into disrepair as it aged (built ca 1930). It has become a danger to the students however as they roof is on the verge of collapse. The students currently take their classes outside the building under the tree when the weather permits, but when it rains they have choice but to go inside for shelter; by doing this they are risking their lives or injury! Can we help this school? Can we give these young people a chance at a better future? Yes we can! Our first action must be to help with the installation of a new roof so the students can at least study in a safe environment. Remember our program has always said small contributions make the whole. And your donation will have a big impact on the lives of these students. Click “Make a Donation” to make a secure donation using Paypal.
