Sagicor Life Inc has collaborated with Shashamane Sunrise Foundation, a registered non-profit organisation, whose mission is to support children’s education in developing countries.
Following the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, where more than 1,000 people lost their lives and over 100,000 homes and buildings were destroyed, one of the casualties was the Marion School. Located in the rural community of Quillon, the School once served over 200 primary students and provided them with an environment that stimulated learning and fostered personal growth.
With the assistance from Sagicor, Shashamane Sunrise Foundation will rebuild a nine-room building that includes six classrooms, two facility rooms, one administrative office, as well as restrooms. This would allow students to resume their studies and provide temporary shelter for residents who have been displaced.
Sagicor’s objective across the group is to help fund the erection of the school buildings. This effort will provide much needed aid to a nation devastated by natural disasters and provide a solid foundation for students of Marion School to resume their education.
